Kiara D. Walker

Kiara’s life has been influenced and affected by art from an early age. Exploring the ruins of Rome as a young girl, She was impressed by the size and age-old beauty of the broken rock of previous empires. The way nature came back to cover over what was old and neglected and mingle with architectural marble of the past offered incredible views of past and present.

Growing up in a house that was always dominated by painting, sculpture and music became a normal experience for her. Being in the background and hearing great passionate discussions about life and art with jazz music playing helped her develop a language and understanding that i would utilize the rest of her life.

Learning from her father how to create art on the landscape while in high school was very beneficial to her understanding. Viewing telephone poles from miles away and hearing her father describe that the pole diameter should be the size of an arm or leg on a monumental sculpture. This type of perceptive thinking helped her develop a method of seeing as an artist.

Being able to see in the minds eye in full three dimensions has been a great benefit to designing sculpture both large and small. Usually She can see many angles, contours, textures and shapes before i makes them. This helps problem solve placement in the environment and the many processes involved in developing sculpture.

Walker taught in some of American’s finest art institutions and has been awarded substantial private and public commissions. Her sculptures can also be found in many private collections worldwide. Her sculptures reflect her strong desire to honor nature’s pure form. Whether it is sculpting from life or carving wood, she always strive to reveal nature’s truths, distorted or with perfect symmetry. She also find inspiration in humanity’s constant cycle of tearing down and rebuilding. Every work of her own explores duality between the ugly and the beautiful: She cannot see one without the other: they are one and the same.

Critics have referred to her works as deeply moving, haunting and unnerving. There is genuine honest introspection apparent in her work while she simultaneously manages to peer through humanity’s kaleidoscope. She works in wood, clay, bronze, stone and mixed media.

Through the sculptural medium she reflects what she sees around her whether it be the politics of living, social ramifications of the environment, or humor derived from our human frailties. She owns and operate Premium Arts Base Studios Inc., where she creates her artworks and exhibits both her work and the work of other artists.

Walker obtained (BA) Bachelors of Arts at University of Ozarks:Clarksville, Arkansas and (MFA) Masters of Fine Arts, Sculpture. “It is very rare to see realistic sculpture that is so honest, masterful and contemporary.”.
